RJW′S Intermodal Department is operated by trained personnel with decades of experience and offers several different Intermodal options:

  • 53′ COFC (Container on Flat Car) Throughout North America – The most cost effective method to move product over long distances.
  • 53′ TOFC (Trailer on Flat Car) - Expedited service via intermodal that gives transit times comparable to OTR. Ideal for those cross-country lanes to and from the west coast that require quicker service than standard rail without the OTR price.
  • 3′ TCU (Temperature Controlled Unit) – Utilize this method when your product requires a specific temperature and would like to save money vs. OTR.
  • 45′, 40′, and 20′ SSL (Steamship Lines) – When shipping from inland locations to the west coast, take advantage of tremendous savings utilizing ocean containers.

When shipping via rail, the shipper is always responsible for ensuring proper loading, blocking, bracing, and weight limits. Containers are often the most economical, but cannot scale as much as the TOFC options. RJW can advise you on these factors and recommend the best mode.
